Farmers Market & Social Media: Strategies for Visitors & Vendors

Rosie [0:17]:

Welcome back to Life 100 Podcast! This is Rosie and it is so good to be with you.

I am happy to bring you this Saturday Solutions mini episode, where our guests, who are well known in their field, bring solutions to everyday challenges. Today, we are going to talk about making the most from the farmer's market, if you are a visitor or a vendor. Our guest is your Yolanda Nagy who is an expert on this topic. She has guided so many to success, and you can read her articles about Mastering the Markets in the award-winning Edible Austin Magazine. So, I asked her how to make the best when we are visiting a farmers market and how vendors can stand out at the market? So here she is, my friend Yolanda.

Yolanda Nagy [01:15]:

Hi, my name is Yolanda Nagy and I am a Farmers Market Consultant and a Social Media Manager. If you're interested in going to the farmers market, three great tips I have for you. First, always go early if you'd like to avoid the crowd, the best time to go is exactly when they open at nine o'clock or go maybe an hour before they close like around one o'clock. Always carry small change because it's very hard for them to exchange large bills. So think about bringing small bills when you come to the farmers market.

Also, another good thing that I like to do, is I wanted to bring two different types of bags. I like to bring a thermal bag so I can put all my meat and cold items and vegetables. And I also bring just a regular bag to put all of my condiments, salsa, and different products like that in my bag as well.

If you are a vendor, three great things for a vendor to do yourselves. One is to stand up and engage with everyone that walked past. If you possibly can bring out samples of what your product is, so people can try it and understand exactly who you are.

And one thing that's really great that people love is recipes. If you're a vendor that has a great product, and you know that you cook many of your meals at home with your food. Introduce farmers and people to your recipes. Put a recipe book out and let people see the many things they can do with your products,

Rosie [2:42]:

And that's why Yolanda is THE Marketing Consultant. Another thing I wanted to ask was, if someone is interested in being a vendor, or if a person is already established, what do they need to do? Specifically, how they can use social media so people can find them easily when they go and visit the Market?

Yolanda Nagy [3:02]:

The first thing is to make sure that you're set up as a business, not as a person. It is very important because you want people to understand exactly who you are and what your product is. You want to set up an Instagram account that is strictly business that is talking about your product for example, like salsa. You want to talk about the ingredients. You want to talk about where it came from and how you got started. You want to make that personal in your business, so people can understand what your salsa is. There are a lot of products on the market.  So you need to let people know why your salsa is the best. Why they should be dipping their chips in there, and why they should be coming to your booth every weekend.

Rosie [3:47]:

So now you have tips on what to do at that location. Now to continue generating that excitement, what challenges can be solved, when I apply the information that learned with the courses?

Yolanda Nagy [3:59]:

My services can help you have a clearer vision of the audience that you're trying to attract. The way we do that is it makes sure that in your bio, it has exactly the name your company, what are the special ingredients of your product and a call to action. Because you want people to know where they can find you besides on Instagram. I would also help you understand the branding colors and making sure that everything on your Instagram stays consistent. Color palettes are very, very important because people gravitate to beauty.

So you always want to make sure that you're using the best angles and the best camera that you possibly can use promoting yourself. So I can help you understand those things. How to create great flyers and how to engage with your audience. I can also help you to show you how to do live shows. Get on your Instagram, get on the live and tell people exactly where you're located. Hey, my name is Linda. I have the best salsa in the world. I am waiting for you to come by. I'm at the Mueller market. I'll be here from nine to one. If you see this live show mention that you saw it and I will give you 5% off or 10% off.

It's a great way to bring more business to your booth. And so with my social media startup, all my classes are private. We go on Zoom, and you're literally working it yourself on your own phone, creating your bio, creating posts, creating hashtags and engagement, learning how to comment learning how to seek out people who are interested in what you're selling. I can show them how to do those things to bring more sales for their business.

Rosie [5:40]:

I like that individual learning. Finally, I asked Yolanda what is the best way to get in touch with her. So here is Yolanda once again.

Yolanda Nagy [5:49]:

I would love for you to check out my website at www.eatinandsippinglocally.com. You can also find me at @eatin_and_sippin-locally on Instagram and Facebook.

Rosie [6:01]:

Now, this was great! I am very thankful for Yolanda sharing her knowledge and passion. I invite you to check out her Instagram because there you will have a visual journey, a showcase of Central Texas Farmer's Markets.
